SJ Sounds is a series of sound and written word installations occurring over the next couple of months. There will be five installations, each focused on interconnected themes/issues within San Jose and the South Bay. These themes and issues will be developed between the sound designers and writers, who will then create a soundscape and short story. Audience members will be able to listen to the soundscapes and read a companion piece at a series of installations around San Jose.
More Más Marami Arts is partnering with Soundplay Media and other community organizations to create calls to action based around each soundscape and story. This project is funded by the Abierto Program, courtesy of the City of San Jose and our fiscal sponsors The School of Arts and Culture.
***NEW DATE*** Join us Saturday April 16th for our finale celebration that will immerse you in all five SJ Sounds soundscapes! The soundscape worlds touch upon themes like housing, the Reid Hillview Airport, gentrification, habitat loss, and incarceration & firefighters. Immerse yourself in the sounds and then read the companion stories that further dive into the present reality and future possibilities of these very real community issues.
Join us April 19th, from 6:00PM to 9:00PM to experience all 10 soundscapes and stories created by 15 sound designers and writers.
Location: Mexican Heritage Plaza, 1700 Alum Rock Avenue, San Jose, 95116
