Writers Launchpad

Writers Launchpad features emerging local writers, focusing on supporting their creative journeys, and hosts a staged reading of the finished pieces for audience feedback.  In this six week long program we’ll be supporting you through your script’s edits, feedback, rehearsals, and performance.  From story outline to staged reading, we’ll be there helping you along the way.

These scripts will have their stage reading during this summer’s More Más Marami Fest, July 19th through the 21st, held at Convergence Arts Center.

Our line-up for July ‘24’s Launchpad:

Tío Pepe's Red Balloon | 7/20 at 2:30pm
by Enrique Muñoz, directed by Melissa Lochsin
“Roberto and Jerry’s love created their beautiful family. But when one of them dies, will their family continue to exist?”

The Soulmate Play | 7/20 at 5:00pm
by Anthony Doan and directed by Jacob Yoder-Schrock
“This isn't really an Aristotelian play. Subverting traditional conventions of storytelling through meta-theatricality, grandiosity, and an ice-cream-bucketful of heart, The Soulmate Play pulls the curtain up on star-crossed lovers and their journeys through time and space to find the rightful purpose of love.”

Soft | 7/21 at 11:00am
by Mark Anthony and directed by Anthony Doan
“Thanksgiving is supposed to bring families together. Especially when your most problematic member passes. But with so much pain, guilty/repressed feelings and trauma, Thanksgiving might break them apart.”

Liminal | 7/21 at 2:00pm
by Lauren Doyle and directed by Stephanie Barajas
“What if…you were always stuck between two thoughts, two moments, two places in time? Liminal is the intimate autobiographical journey of one artist through poverty, parenthood, disability, and trauma, which begs the question: do we ever really get better?”
